Well it's been a while between posts. A lot has been happening, especially with the look and feel of Carol Slater Photography's logo and soon to be unveiled website. I can't wait for it to go live!

I will also be introducing CSP's new live photobooth called " Enter the Booth". That's right! Have fun at your next function with our evergrowing prop box, fun photographer and  mini studio. All the fun of a traditional photo booth but with the quality of a professional studio.

Brisbane Park(ing) Day with Green Earth Group

PARK(ing) Day was started in 2005 by Rebar to raise awareness about the lack of green spaces in San Francisco’s downtown. It transformed an on-street car park into a ‘people park’ by temporarily providing turf, seating and shade. It is based on the idea that paying for a parking meter is like ‘renting’ a public space.


Since then it has been creatively adapted and sparked imaginations around the world and in 2008 there were over 200 PARKs in 50 major cities, including New York, London and Los Angeles. In 2008 Brisbane participated and featured 40 parks on the day, attracted many people and the media.

The PARKs are surprising, fun additions to the everyday street environments, and powerful symbols of placemaking and communities wanting to improve urban quality.
Brisbane PARK(ing) Day is all about –

1. Calling attention to the importance for urban public spaces

2. Rethinking the way we use our streets

3. Creating diverse conversations about how we can make sustainable cities
 
Green Earth Group Inc is a not-for-profit charity group who aim to promote a better way of living - for us, for our animal friends and for our planet.
Green Earth group objectives include, but are not limited to:


•Education and information on more environmentally and ethically sustainable alternatives to our everyday living practices

•Emphasis on the plant-based diet and on educating others about this lifestyle: the benefits for the individual, the animals and the planet

•Working with schools and other groups to educate them to the benefits of taking responsibility for their own health as well as giving demonstrations to show the ease of adopting the plant-based diet

•Working with other established groups that promote the above objectives to form an alliance


I was delighted to join Green Earth Group at the 2010 PARK(ing) Day. I had a great day hanging out with a lovely group of passionate vegans, handing out information and chatting to all the lovely people who stopped by. Here are a few pics from the day.

Windsor Castle

Recently, I met the lovely Rebecca who owns the brand new Creme de la Creme Hair & Beauty Salon in Windsor. We are both keen to decrease wastage and our carbon footprint while running our businesses. I popped in to see her new "space" in the heritage listed building at 249 Lutwyche Road in Windsor. Rebecca shares this wonderful building with Wedding Planners - w.edding & co. I took along my camera and I'm pleased to be able to share some of the shots I took of this wonderful female initiative they call "Windor Castle".

W.edding & Co have the most amazing vintage tableware and other items on display

Scarlett's photo shoot

My little grand daughter wanted her own photo shoot in her fairy dress so we had a day together to take photos on location.
We went to the Roma St Parklands for a couple of hours and just had fun. Her favourite was the beautiful tree which she now calls her fairy tree house - very cute!

Wedding Favours / Bonbonniere

Think about either making a donation to your favorite charity as a wedding favor, or giving something that your guests can use to grow more life, like seeds, trees, or bulbs that guests can plant in honor of your union. Think drought resistant, hardy plants like grevilleas or wattles such as acacia cognata, a native grass called Lomandra ‘Seascape’, Coastal Rosemary, Westringia fruticosa. Look out for ‘Jervis Gem’. It's a low, rounded shrub, with wonderful mauve flowers. It's a tough, hardy plant.

If that's not quite what you had in mind then here are a few more ideas. Remember, you are trying to avoid any wastage so try and think recycled or no packaging at all. Also, think local! -

* Bamboo coasters or placemats (Bamboo is considered good luck)

* Home made vegan sweets in reusable recycled boxes

* Organic soy candles

* Organic, fair trade coffe or tea

* Satchels or potpourri bags full of organic herbs

* Bottle of Australian organic wine.

Planning a Green Wedding Part 1

You may want to go completely lavish for your wedding day but this doesn’t mean that you can’t be conscious and considerate of mother earth.


Wedding are lots of fun and planning a green wedding day lends itself to getting really innovative in every way. All aspects of your wedding day can be green!
